2025 Legislative Days Event Recap
On January 29 – 30th, nearly 50 TPCAR members joined with 600 REALTOR® members from across the State to gather at the Capitol in Olympia and lobby REALTOR® and housing consumer issues with legislators from every district in the state. The event offered attendees an opportunity to hear from the Washington REALTORS® (WR) lobby team about key issues which could impact housing in 2025, learn about WR association business and committee activities, and also offered a chance to hear directly from the National Association of REALTORS® with NAR CEO, Nykia Wright, and NAR President, Kevin Sears both in attendance and answering member questions.
TPCAR members from the 2nd, 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th, and 31st districts had the opportunity to meet with the legislators and share about the importance of housing to our communities and overall economy (housing and related economic activity constitute 20% of GDP), describe impacts of proposed legislation and how they would impact consumers, and offer industry input on solutions to unlocking homeownership for more Washingtonians.
Current legislative proposals or discussions being supported by Washington REALTORS® include:
- Lot splitting and subdivision reform
- Rural Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU)
- Condominium liability reform
- Transit-Oriented development (TOD)
Members are encouraged to follow legislative updates from WR and TPCAR very closely – particularly if any “calls to action” are announced. Strong response from the membership is critical to maintaining the gains we’ve made on housing in recent sessions and to ensuring that additional costs are not added to housing in Washington State.
